I have LONG been a fan of everything about Jerry Weldon. Heck he even contributed to making me and my son into Mets fans. Jerry is as beautiful as they come and that kindness, beauty, gregariousness comes out in his playing. He has one of THE biggest, fat and round saxophone sounds on the planet and to share the stage with him is a dream come true. I’m not sure one is ever “ready” to play beside Jerry Weldon but after doing 5 or 6 gigs with him I felt as ready as I would ever be. This wasn’t a tenor battle or duel as they say, it’s two musicians who have mutual respect for one another, coming together to make beautiful music. We were able to string together 5 or 6 gigs together with the band before this recording and really work through the material and you can really hear it in the results. The band is really cookin’ with Miles Black on piano, John Lee on bass and Jesse Cahill on drums providing the perfect foil for myself and Weldon to weave some greasy magic.
